For Walk-a-Thons

The walk-a-thon, finally without the paper pledge sheets

GPS-verified miles. Strava and Fitbit auto-sync. Per-mile pledges that bill automatically when the campaign closes. A live leaderboard at the finish line. Whether you have 12 employees walking around the office park or 1,200 students walking the school field, the same platform handles it.

What's wrong with the traditional walk-a-thon

Paper pledge sheets. Half come back. The ones that do come back have $5 pledges from grandma you'll spend a week chasing. Treasurer's job for two months.
Cash collection. Nobody carries cash. The pledge of $20 turns into "I forgot my wallet, I'll send it later" and "later" never arrives.
No real verification. The kid says they walked 8 laps. Maybe they did. The honor system breaks at scale.
No event-day excitement. Without a live total, the walk-a-thon is just walking. With a thermometer climbing in real time on the big screen, it becomes an event.

What ScanRaise gives you

Each participant gets a unique tracker link. They open it on their phone, hit "Start", walk. GPS records the mileage continuously, anti-cheat catches anyone who drove.
Sponsors pledge per mile via QR code or text-to-give. The sponsor's card is held; the actual charge happens when the campaign closes and the verified mileage is final.
Strava and Fitbit users can connect their account once. Their workouts auto-import, no double-logging. New parents pushing strollers, lunchtime walkers at the office, the whole spectrum.
Live display URL projects the running total on a screen at the finish line. Watch the number climb in real time.
When the event closes, sponsors are auto-billed via Stripe. The charity or organization gets a single payout. Receipts go out automatically.

Common walk-a-thon formats

Single-day Event

The classic Saturday morning walk

One day, one location, fixed loop. Participants check in at the start tent, hit "Start" on their phone, walk laps. Per-lap or per-mile pledges. Live leaderboard at the finish. Wrap up by noon.

Multi-week Format

30-day distributed walk-a-thon

Especially for distributed companies, alumni groups, or schools with absent students. Participants walk on their own schedule over a 30-day window. GPS or Strava captures each session. Total miles roll up at the end. Same per-mile pledge model.

Hybrid Event

Anchor day + bring-your-own miles

One signature in-person walk on Saturday with a live leaderboard, plus the ability for sponsors and remote participants to log miles in the surrounding 2 weeks. Captures the energy of an in-person event AND the inclusivity of a distributed format.

Walk-a-thon variations that work

Corporate office walk-a-thon

Lunchtime walks around the campus over a 30-day window. Per-mile company match. Lobby leaderboard. Departments compete.

School fun-run / walk-a-thon

Per-class leaderboards. Each student gets a unique QR code. Teachers compete. Students rally their networks. Per-lap pledges from family.

Memorial walk

Annual remembrance event in honor of a colleague, alumnus, or community member. Distributed format so out-of-town family can participate. Per-mile pledges fund a scholarship or named donation.

Cause-specific walks

Cancer walks, MS walks, mental health walks, autism awareness walks. Plug in any 501(c)(3) recipient. Per-mile pledges. Live total visible to participants throughout the event.

Multi-team relay

Departments or grades pass a virtual baton. Each team's collective miles count. The team with the most miles at the end picks the recipient charity from a curated list.

Family reunion walk

Family reunion in a different city each year, with a walk component. Out-of-town members log miles in their own city. The whole family contributes to a shared family-cause donation.
